These classes are Half-Black Red Delta, Half-Black Blue Delta, Half-Black Pastel Delta, Half-Black Purple Delta, Half-Black Yellow Delta and Half-Black Green Delta.
If a Half-Black Delta has a caudal which does not fall into any of these color varieties, enter it as a Half-Black AOC [Any Other Color] Delta. Note that the Half-Black AOC class may include both solid-tailed and variegated tailed guppies. Pastel is defined as being a light shade of any basic color and also includes white.
- Which Snakeskin Delta Class?
If the fish has a single, dominant color in its caudal, with less than 25% of any other color, enter it as a Solid Snakeskin Delta.
If the fish has two or more colors in its caudal, with at least 25% of the secondary color, enter it as a Variegated Snakeskin Delta.
- Which Delta Color Variety?
All fish not already classified by their color strain or tail shape will be divided into classes based solely on caudal coloration or color variety.
If the fish has a single, dominant color in its tail, with less than 25% of the caudal bearing any secondary color, it should be entered in the appropriate solid color variety class. These classes are Red Delta, Blue Delta, Green Delta, Black Delta, Purple Delta and Yellow Delta
If the fish has two colors in the caudal, with at least 25% coverage with the secondary color, it should be entered as a Bi-color. The bi-color classes are divided based on the primary color: Red Bi-color Delta or Blue/ Green Bi-color Delta [for fish with either blue or green as their primary color; the secondary color may be any color]. Bi-colored fish which have a color other than red, blue or green as their primary color should be entered as AOC [Any other color] Bi-color Delta.
If the fish has three or more colors in its caudal, with at least 15% coverage in the third color, it should be entered as a Multi-colored Delta.
Any Delta male not classified in any of the previously listed classes should be entered as an AOC [Any other color] Delta.
- Which Veil Class?
If a Veil guppy would qualify for the Albino, Gold or Bronze class if it were a Delta, it should be entered as a Body/Eye Color Veil. This would include any Veil guppy with a red or pink eye [Albino], a bright, yellow gold [Gold], or a deep golden or bronze body with the scales edged in black [Bronze]
If the back half of the body is a shade of black, enter that Veiltail guppy as a Half-Black Veil. Note that Half-black Veils are not further divided by caudal coloration, as the Half Black Deltas are.
If 60% or more of the Veil guppy's body is covered by a chain-like or rosette pattern, enter the fish as a Snakeskin Veil, regardless of caudal color.
If the caudal of the Veil guppy bears a single, dominant color, with less than 25% covered by any secondary color, enter it as a Solid Veil.
If the caudal of the Veil guppy bears two or more colors, with at least 25% coverage by the secondary color, or at least 15% coverage by each of the secondary and tertiary colors, enter the fish as a Variegated Veil.

- Which Female Class?
If the back half of the females body is black, from the dorsal to the base of the caudal, it is a Half-Black. If the dominant color on the caudal of a Half-Black female is red, she should be entered as a Half-Black Red Female. A Half-black female with a black caudal should be entered as a Black Female. Otherwise, she is a Half-Black AOC Female.
If the female shows bright, yellow-gold coloration over 25% of the body, she is a Gold Female. Note that, as for males, a common "gold-bodied" female is not bright enough to qualify for the class and should be shown in the class appropriate for her caudal coloration.
All remaining females are classified by their caudal coloration. Specific caudal color classes exist for red, black and blue or green females, these being Red Female, Black Female and Blue/Green Female, respectively. Any female not qualifying for any other color class would be entered as an AOC Female. Note that an AOC Female may have a caudal that is any solid color other than red, black or blue/green, or it may be clear or variegated. If the female guppy has a red or pink eye, enter it as an Albino Female.
Novice Classes.
If you have not won a 1st or 2nd place (new for 2005) IFGA annual award [including the novice class, excluding the Junior class],you may wish to show your fish in one of the Novice classes, Novice Delta, Novice Veil and Novice Female. These are general classes and do not differentiate according to color. A Novice may also compete in one of the specific classes above.
Junior Classes.
If you are 16 years of age or younger, you may wish to show your fish in one of the Junior classes, Junior Delta, Junior Veil or Junior Female. These also are general classes and do not differentiate according to color. A Junior may also compete in one of the specific classes above.
Classifying entries consisting of more than one fish
Some classes in IFGA competition call for entries consisting of more than one fish. In the Breeder classes, for example, all color varieties of guppies are judged against one another. For the Breeder Male class, an entry consists of five matched males of any color variety or caudal shape. A Breeder Female entry consists of three matched females of any color variety.
In the Tank classes, an entry includes two matched males. In the Tank classes, no distinction is made between veil and delta tails--both tail configurations compete against one another, in color-based classes which are structured just the same as the Delta color classes. There are also separate Tank classes for Double Swordtail and Single Swordtail Combined.
In these entries, extra points are awarded for degree of matching.
